This is more or less the final comp for my AE Evolution challenge. I’m about to transfer it to the watercolor paper and begin the final drawing, I may even try to ink parts of it, if I can find some waterproof ink. Bellow you can see my previous final drawing. I decided to revise it because it felt really stiff and disjointed.

Art Evolution Challenge

January 25, 2012

So there is a new challenge for the art oder that I am working on. The challenge is for an illustration based on the following description: A young female human wizard with black hair who always wears white trimmed in gold. I can use any fantasy or sci fi genre. Obviously I have to go with steam punk. My down stairs neighbor was kind enough to pose for me tonight, so I can start working on the actual design of the illustration. The image above is just a costume concept and color study.

Fresh Eyes

After looking at this painting for the past month or two, I finally had time this last week to come back in and make a few adjustments. I added a few extra details and retouched the face. I also darkened the overcoat to clean up the brushwork and smoothed out a few of the highlights. I think it is ready for the judges, We’ll see how it goes.

In other news, I’m gonna be a dad in the next week or two! I can’t wait to meet my new little angel. Life is really about to change in a big way. Wish me luck!

Automos Wars

This is a comp I’ve been working on for several months. I’m really trying to challenge myself by doing some forced perspective. Over the past few months I’ve drawn this one at least fifty times, and I’m glad to say that I think I may have finally landed on just the right comp… or maybe I’ll wake up in the morning and see that it looks like crapola. You never can tell at 2AM.

Here it is, Finally. Work, life and other art have gotten in the way of getting this one done in a timely fashion. But, better late than never. This one was a lot of fun to pain… except for the times when it wasn’t. But, painting is a lot like child birth (something I will be learning about first hand come february), once the baby comes you forget all about the pains of giving birth. Already the agonizing hours of frustration are melting away into my distant memory and all I can think is: I’ve got to do this again.
